Ticking the boxes

This chap is Tim Farron MP, the current Liberal Democrat party president.

He’s an obscure professional politician but he has ticks in the following boxes, as he’s an:

  • MP
  • An EU loving Liberal Democrat
  • Ginger
  • Christian
  • Called Tim

Any one of those would see him deserving a quiet slap but join them together and you just have to end up pitying the fellow.

How then did I come to hear about this non-entity? Tim complained to the Advertising Standards Authority, about a  decision to prevent a Christian group “Healing on the Streets of Bath” from claiming prayer can physically heal. His letter asked the ASA to adduce indisputable scientific evidence that faith healing did not work. He clearly does not understand the scientific principle about proof.

Better yet, when his Liberal colleagues raised an eyebrow at this rather illogical stance, he backed down admitting he shouldn’t have signed the complaint which was badly written.

“As a Christian I believe that prayer helps – although my belief is that God mostly heals through medicine, surgery and human compassion and ingenuity.”

Really? Nice to see a Christian and a Liberal sticking with their principles.
