Darkstar’s favourite word

usufruct:

PRONUNCIATION:(YOO-zuh-fruhkt, -suh-)
MEANING:The right to use and enjoy another’s property without destroying it.
ETYMOLOGY: From Latin ususfructus, from usus et fructus (use and enjoyment).

A word and concept for which, he erroneously believes, I have little respect.

Indeed……. the 1st part of the definition is apposite but you fail on the second part – without destroying it ! Unlike us medical men who adhere to the Hippocratic “primum non nocere” as our maxim. Not that we actually care about the tenets of medical ethics – something to be sworn and forgotten after the graduation ball (along with ones undying love usually). By the way – is your brother now on your blog? I shall spurn it forthwith.

  • What have I ever destroyed – apart from the hopes and dreams of my mother – but they are not tangible or realistic and are therefore not worthy of mention.

Okay, I will concede there was the incident with Adrian’s fishing rod but that merely provided him with an opportunity to whittle, twine and fettle whilst ignoring all forms of human interaction – for which he was grateful. This “baseless” calumniation of my good self must be proved or ceased.

I admire your ethical candour – and may I suggest primum pecuniam adripe (the imperative takes the accusative WATSON!) as a more appropriate maxim for the medical profession upon graduation – after seven long hard years of drinking and learning the finer points of golf.

Verily it seems that Nick has indeed made his first post, on my welcome page. The oversight of allowing anyone to comment on that page has been remedied and I have transferred his rant – which I hope you will consider a good first effort – to a new post. Your continued abuse is hoped for and indeed expected.
