North & South Theme Tune

This is probably illegal, but click here so all you North and South fans can download an MP3 file of the fantastically evocative theme tune from the BBC’s adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel North and South, composed by Martin Phipps. When the BBC ask me to take the MP3 down, I will, but until then, please enjoy this clip which came from the end of Episode 3.

To set the scene, the lovely Daniela Denby-Ashe (as Margaret Hale) has just had a disastrous meeting with John Thornton (played by Richard Armitage) where he erroneously believes she loves another. If you listen carefully you can hear a chair being accidentally whacked, as Thornton stroms out of Margaret’s drawing room.

Martin if you ever see this, sorry for ripping your score. It’s so lyrical and redolent – I just had to do it!

Here is the lovely Daniela as Miss Hale from the BBC series.

All you need to do is right click the word “Here” and then select “Save link as.” The wording of your options may change depending on your browser but the idea is the same.
